Kiwi Fruit Female.
Botanical Name: Actinidia deliciosa.
The Female Chinese Gooseberry is a vigorous, deciduous vine with long canes and large dark green, rounded leaves. The fibrous brown-green fruit is rich in Vitamin C and highly nutritious. The male plant does not bear fruit or flowers during late spring and summer. This unique plant requires both a male and female plant for cross-pollination. One male plant will pollinate up to 5 females.
A good climber for pergolas and other outdoor structures. Best eaten fresh by cutting it in half and eating the flesh fresh, also suitable for fruit salads and desserts.
This deciduous shrub prefers a sunny to partly shaded position in acidic, moist, well-drained soil.
Mulch well to conserve soil moisture and prune to remove smaller, weaker branches and to open up the plant.
Mature Size: H1.2 x W1m.
