Raspberry Tulameen.
Botanical Name: Ribes sativum.
A delightful, easy-to-grow plant providing large red fruit making this summer fruiting raspberry a delicious choice. The sweet fruit may be harvested from January to March on virtually thorn-free canes. Raspberries make the perfect summer snack, can be added to desserts and are suitable for freezing and ideal for making jam. The tall robust stems mean this variety needs plenty of space in a sunny, sheltered spot.
Bred in Canada and tolerant of a range of climates, "Tulameen' has become one of the most popular summer fruiting raspberries.
Best grown in a sunny position in fertile, moist and well-drained soil. Enrich the soil with organic matter before planting - homemade garden compost or well-rotted manure is fine.
Net the area to protect the sweet fruits from birds.
After fruiting, the old stems should be cut to the ground and the new stems trained to support wires in the autumn.
