Plant it with herbs, a strawberry, a small fern or a single orchid. Soak the pot in water before planting so the clay doesn’t draw moisture from fresh soil. The terracotta darkens when wet and pales as it dries, so you can see when your plant needs a drink. Over time it develops a soft patina.
