September: Things to Do in the Garden This Month

on October 14, 2025

Kickstart Your Veggie Patch

It’s time to roll up your sleeves and bring your veggie patch to life. Plant seedlings of tomatoes, cucumbers, capsicum, and zucchini. Protect young plants with cloches if frosts are still about — Melbourne’s spring weather can be unpredictable, so a little protection goes a long way.

Time to Fertilise

Watch your garden spring back to life with a good-quality fertiliser. Spring feeding gives plants the nutrients they need after winter dormancy, supporting new growth, flowering, and fruiting. With warmer soil, active roots, and regular rain, nutrients can reach plants more easily. Feeding now sets them up for strong growth and resilience for the year ahead.

Our pick of the month: Vasili’s Superfood

Watch Out for Pests and Diseases

As new growth appears, so do unwelcome visitors. Keep an eye out for aphids clustering on tender shoots and buds. Left untreated, they can quickly weaken plants. A quick spray will keep numbers in check. Prevention is best.

For roses, we recommend a protective dose of Rose Spray RTU to shield fresh foliage and blooms.
