Banksia Red Dawn - 33cm Pot

Banksia ‘Red Dawn’ is a striking Australian native shrub known for its vibrant burgundy flower spikes and strong, adaptable growth. Flowering from autumn through winter, it produces bold cylindrical blooms that provide a valuable food source for nectar-loving birds, bees and other pollinators during the cooler months.

With its tall, spreading habit and attractive foliage, Red Dawn works beautifully as a feature shrub or informal screen, adding colour, texture and movement to the garden. Its ability to tolerate coastal conditions, including salt-laden winds, makes it a reliable choice for exposed sites.

Care & Growing Tips
Plant in full sun to part shade in light, well-drained soil. Good drainage is essential, as Banksia ‘Red Dawn’ will not tolerate waterlogged conditions. Avoid heavy clay soils unless improved for drainage.

Water regularly while establishing, then reduce, as the plant becomes drought tolerant once mature. Supplementary watering during extended dry periods will support healthier growth and flowering. It is also tolerant of light frost once established.

Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage bushier growth. Avoid heavy pruning, as banksias flower on older wood. Apply a native fertiliser at the same time and mulch annually to retain moisture and improve soil health.
