Camellia sasanqua ‘Marge Miller’ is a unique, low-growing camellia prized for its spreading, cascading habit and masses of soft pink, double flowers. Unlike traditional upright camellias, this variety forms a beautiful ground-hugging shrub, making it ideal for covering space with year-round evergreen foliage and seasonal colour.

Flowering through the cooler months, Marge Miller produces an abundance of delicate pink blooms set against deep green foliage. Its naturally trailing habit makes it perfect for cascading over retaining walls, softening rockeries, or creating a dense flowering carpet when mass planted. It can also be trained up a stake to form a graceful, weeping standard for added height and structure.

Best suited to semi-shaded positions protected from harsh afternoon sun, this variety is both versatile and low maintenance once established.

Care & Growing Tips
Plant in semi-shade to light shade in well-prepared, free-draining soil enriched with organic matter. Dig a hole at least twice the width of the pot and slightly deeper, and consider raised beds in heavy soils to improve drainage.

Position the plant so the top of the potting mix sits level with the surrounding soil, firm gently and water in well. Apply a layer of mulch (approximately 5cm thick), keeping it clear of the trunk, to retain moisture and protect the roots.

Keep soil consistently moist during establishment, which may take several months to a year. Once established, watering can be reduced. Pruning is generally not required, though a light trim in early spring can be done if shaping is needed. Avoid late pruning, as this may reduce flowering.

Feed in spring with a quality general-purpose fertiliser, with an additional application in mid to late summer if required.
