Hydrangea quercifolia ‘Prinsnow’ Snow Queen is a standout deciduous shrub prized for its dramatic foliage, long-lasting flowers and exceptional autumn colour. Commonly known as Oakleaf Hydrangea, this variety features large, deeply lobed leaves that resemble oak leaves, emerging rich green before transforming into vivid shades of red and purple in autumn.

From early summer, Snow Queen produces impressive, cone-shaped flower panicles held proudly above the foliage on strong, upright stems. The flowers begin creamy white, gradually softening to blush pink as they mature, and often deepen to richer pink and red tones by autumn. This extended colour transition, paired with striking foliage, delivers multi-season interest in the garden.

Compact yet bold, Prinsnow grows to around 1.5 metres high and wide, making it ideal as a feature shrub in garden beds or borders. It adds texture and structure to a wide range of garden styles, from perennial and cottage gardens to more formal designs.

Care & Growing Tips
Plant in full sun to part shade. While oakleaf hydrangeas tolerate sun, protection from harsh afternoon sun is recommended to prevent leaf scorch. Shadier positions produce larger leaves, while more sun encourages richer autumn colour. Grow in well-drained soil and avoid waterlogged conditions. Water regularly while establishing, then reduce, as plants tolerate short dry periods once settled. Prune lightly in winter to maintain shape and remove dead or damaged wood. Feed with a slow-release fertiliser in late spring and apply mulch annually to support healthy growth.
Caution: harmful to pets if ingested and may cause skin irritation in humans.
