Alyogyne West Coast Gem - 14cm Pot

Alyogyne ‘West Coast Gem’ is a fast-growing Australian native shrub prized for its large purple hibiscus-like flowers. Flowering from spring through autumn, it provides a long season of colour and attracts bees and butterflies to the garden.

Naturally developing into a medium-sized spreading shrub, ‘West Coast Gem’ can have a somewhat open habit when left unpruned. Regular shaping encourages denser, more rounded growth, making it particularly useful for informal hedging and screening.

Hardy and relatively low maintenance, it performs best in a sunny, well-drained position and tolerates dry conditions and light frost once established. ‘West Coast Gem’ is also sometimes known as Alyogyne ‘Swan River’.

Mature size: approximately 2 to 2.5 metres high × 1.5 to 2 metres wide

Care & Growing Tips
Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing, then provide supplementary water during extended dry periods.
Prune after the main spring flowering to encourage dense growth and further flowering.
Feed with a low-phosphorus native fertiliser or seaweed solution in spring and apply mulch to help retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.
