Alyogyne West Coast Gem - 14cm Pot

Alyogyne ‘East Coast Gem’ is a compact, fast-growing Australian native shrub, valued for its long flowering season and vibrant purple blooms. A refined form of the native hibiscus, this variety produces an abundance of silky dark purple to mauve flowers for most of the year, with the heaviest display from spring through to autumn.

Smaller and more compact than its relative ‘West Coast Gem’, East Coast Gem forms a neat, medium-density shrub that is ideal for garden borders, low screening and feature planting. Its continuous flowering and open blooms make it highly attractive to pollinators, bringing bees and beneficial insects into the garden.

Adaptable and easy to grow, this variety thrives in a wide range of conditions, making it a reliable choice for both native and mixed garden designs.

Care & Growing Tips
Plant in full sun to part shade in well-prepared, well-drained soil. East Coast Gem is adaptable to a range of soil types, from slightly acidic to alkaline, but good soil preparation will improve establishment and long-term performance.

Water regularly while establishing, then reduce, as the plant becomes drought tolerant. During extended dry periods, supplementary watering will help maintain flowering and overall health. It is also tolerant of light frost once established.

Apply a low-phosphorus native fertiliser during establishment, with occasional feeding as required. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
