Hakea Laurina - 33cm Pot

Hakea laurina, commonly known as Pincushion Hakea, is a striking Australian native that develops into a large shrub or small tree with attractive blue-green foliage.

Its standout feature is the unusual pincushion-like flowers, with rounded cream to pink centres surrounded by prominent red to pink styles. Buds begin developing from late summer, with flowers opening from late autumn through winter, bringing colour and interest to the garden during the cooler months.

Best flowering occurs in full sun. It can tolerate some part shade, although plants may develop a more open growth habit and produce fewer flowers. The nectar-rich blooms also provide a useful food source for birds, butterflies and other wildlife.

Mature size: approximately 2.5 to 6 metres high × 2 to 5 metres wide

Care & Growing Tips
Plant in full sun for the best flowering and densest growth, in well-drained soil.
It will tolerate light frost, although fresh young growth may be damaged during particularly cold conditions.
As Hakea laurina has a relatively shallow root system, choose a position with some protection from strong winds.
Feed lightly with a low-phosphorus fertiliser suitable for Australian native plants if required.
