Acer palmatum ‘Mikawa Yatsubusa’ is a highly sought-after dwarf Japanese Maple prized for its dense layered branching and compact growth habit. This slow-growing ornamental tree forms a naturally sculptural shape, making it an excellent feature for smaller gardens, courtyards, Japanese-style landscapes and bonsai-inspired planting. Its tightly arranged foliage gives the tree a unique textured appearance that stands out year-round.

In spring, fresh bright green leaves emerge densely along the branches, creating a rich layered effect that gives the plant its distinctive character. Through summer, the foliage remains lush and vibrant before transforming in autumn into a mix of fiery reds, oranges and warm gold tones. Care & Growing Tips
Plant Acer palmatum ‘Mikawa Yatsubusa’ in a sheltered position with morning sun or filtered light. Protection from hot afternoon sun and drying winds will help maintain healthy foliage, particularly in warmer climates.

Prefers well-drained, moisture-retentive soil enriched with organic matter. Mulching around the base helps keep roots cool and retain moisture.

Water regularly during establishment and during extended dry periods. Container-grown specimens may require more frequent watering through summer.

Apply a slow-release fertiliser suitable for Japanese maples or deciduous trees in early spring as new growth begins.

Very little pruning is required due to its naturally compact habit. Remove any dead or crossing branches during winter dormancy if needed.

Best suited to cool to temperate climates and benefits from protection against harsh summer heat.
