Grevillea Gaudi Chaudi is a fast-growing Australian native groundcover prized for its dense fern-like foliage, vibrant red flowers and ability to cover large areas with minimal maintenance. This spreading evergreen grevillea forms a thick weed-suppressing mat, making it an excellent choice for slopes, embankments, native gardens and low maintenance landscapes where reliable groundcover is needed.

Fresh new growth emerges with attractive bronze tones that contrast beautifully against the mature green foliage. During spring and summer, the plant produces striking red toothbrush-shaped flowers that stand proudly above the foliage. These nectar-rich blooms attract small native birds, butterflies and beneficial insects, helping to create a lively, wildlife-friendly garden. The finely divided foliage remains attractive throughout the year, providing texture and colour even when not in flower.

One of the standout features of Grevillea gaudi chaudi is its ability to spread widely while remaining low to the ground. A single plant can eventually cover up to three metres, making it highly effective for erosion control, weed suppression and filling large garden spaces. It thrives in a wide range of soil types, including poorer soils, and performs well in coastal, native and drought-tolerant gardens. Its fast growth and adaptability make it a valuable landscaping plant for both residential and larger-scale projects.

Mature size: approximately 20–30 centimetres high × 1–3 metres wide

Care & Growing Tips
Plant Grevillea gaudichaudii in full sun to light shade for best flowering and dense growth.

Prefers well-drained soil but adapts to sandy, loamy, clay loam and poorer soils provided drainage is reasonable.

Water regularly during establishment. Once established, it is drought tolerant and requires minimal supplementary watering except during extended dry periods.

If fertilising is required, use a low-phosphorus native plant fertiliser. Avoid products high in phosphorus, which can damage grevilleas.

Pruning is rarely necessary but occasional trimming can help maintain shape and encourage fresh growth.

Tolerates light frost and performs well in cool temperate, warm temperate and Mediterranean climates.

Some people may experience skin irritation when handling grevilleas. Wearing gloves and protective clothing is recommended if sensitive.
