Description

Grevillea ‘Lady O’ is a hardy Australian native shrub valued for its masses of red spider-like flowers and long flowering season. This spreading evergreen grevillea provides colour for much of the year, making it a reliable choice for gardeners wanting a low maintenance plant that attracts birds and pollinators while adding texture and movement to the landscape.
Throughout the year, ‘Lady O’ produces an abundance of bright red blooms that stand out against its attractive green foliage. The nectar-rich flowers are highly attractive to small native birds, bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects, helping to create a more wildlife-friendly garden. Its extended flowering period ensures there is almost always colour on display, even when many other plants are between seasons.
With its broad spreading habit, Grevillea ‘Lady O’ works beautifully as a feature shrub, informal groundcover, low screen or filler plant in mixed garden beds. It is equally at home in native gardens, cottage gardens, poolside planting and drought-tolerant landscapes. The plant naturally develops an attractive form, but occasional light pruning encourages denser growth and even more flowering. Its adaptability to a range of soil types and ability to tolerate frost make it an excellent performer in many Australian climates.
Mature size: approximately 1–1.5 metres high × 2–2.5 metres wide
Care & Growing Tips
Plant Grevillea ‘Lady O’ in a full sun to lightly shaded position for best flowering and growth.
Prefers well-drained soil and adapts well to loamy, sandy loam and clay loam soils. Avoid poorly drained sites where water may sit around the roots.
Water regularly during establishment. Once established, it is highly drought tolerant and generally requires only occasional watering during prolonged dry periods.
Apply a low-phosphorus native plant fertiliser in spring if needed. Avoid fertilisers high in phosphorus, which can damage grevilleas.
Light pruning after flowering flushes will encourage a denser habit and help maintain a tidy shape.
Highly tolerant of both light and heavy frost, making it suitable for cool-climate gardens as well as Mediterranean and temperate regions.
