Loved by gardeners for their showy winter flowers. Helleborus x hybridus, commonly known as winter roses, are tough evergreen perennials that are well suited to south-eastern Australia's climate. 

Hellebores bring welcome colour to the garden during the cooler months. Flowering through winter, this variety features soft maroon-pink single blooms paired with attractive blue-tinged foliage, creating a subtle contrast that adds sophistication to winter garden beds or shaded pots.

Their long-lasting blooms also make excellent cut flowers, bringing a touch of winter indoors.

Care

Naturally suited to part shade to full shade, hellebores thrive under trees, in garden beds or in pots, where their lush foliage provides year-round structure. Growing to around 30–60cm high and 50cm wide, they form neat clumps that work beautifully in both formal and relaxed garden settings.

Easy to grow and low maintenance, hellebores prefer fertile, well-drained soil and benefit from regular watering while establishing. Once settled, they are both drought and frost tolerant, making them a reliable choice for temperate and cool climates. Plant in autumn or early spring for best results.
