Aussie Flat Bush™ Rhagodia spinescens is a compact, low-growing Australian native groundcover designed for tough conditions and large-scale landscapes. With its dense, spreading habit and attractive blue-grey foliage, it creates a soft, uniform carpet that adds colour contrast while helping suppress weeds.

This improved, lower-growing form of Rhagodia is ideal for slopes, roadsides and open spaces, where reliability and minimal maintenance are key. It can be left to grow naturally for a relaxed look or pruned regularly for a more manicured finish.

Highly adaptable, Aussie Flat Bush™ performs well across a wide range of climates. From inland to coastal conditions, it tolerates both low and higher rainfall areas.

Mature size: approximately 30–50cm high × 1 metre wide

Care & Growing Tips
Plant in full sun to light shade in well-drained soil. Rhagodia spinescens is extremely adaptable and tolerates most soil types, including heavier soils.

Water regularly for the first 8–13 weeks to establish, then reduce, as it becomes highly drought tolerant once mature. It is also frost tolerant (down to approx. -5°C) and well suited to exposed environments.

Apply a slow-release fertiliser in spring if needed. For a neat, structured look, prune once or twice a year. For a more natural style, minimal pruning is required.

Ideal for
– Groundcover and mass planting
– Slopes and erosion control
– Roadsides and commercial landscapes
– Coastal and inland conditions
– Low-maintenance and waterwise gardens
