Description
Leucospermum ‘Carnival® Orange’ is a vibrant evergreen shrub producing masses of striking orange pincushion-shaped flowers in spring. Its unusual blooms create a colourful display against the green foliage, bringing warmth and texture to sunny garden beds.
A versatile variety from the Carnival® range, ‘Carnival Orange’ is well suited to both garden planting and large decorative containers. Its bushy growth habit makes it an attractive choice for feature planting, mixed shrub borders and contemporary landscapes.
A member of the Proteaceae family, this South African hybrid is particularly suited to sunny gardens with excellent drainage. Once established, it has relatively low water requirements, making it a practical choice for coastal, native-inspired and low-maintenance gardens.
Mature size: approximately 2 metres high × 2 metres wide
Care & Growing Tips
Plant in full sun in well-drained, acidic soil. Excellent drainage is essential, as Leucospermums are sensitive to waterlogged conditions, particularly during Melbourne's cooler, wetter months.
Water regularly while establishing, then reduce watering once the plant is settled. Established plants have relatively low water requirements, although occasional deep watering may be beneficial during extended hot, dry periods.
Use a low-phosphorus fertiliser suitable for Proteaceae if feeding is required. Avoid standard high-phosphorus fertilisers and excessive applications of manure.
Lightly prune after flowering to maintain a bushy shape and encourage fresh growth. Avoid cutting back into old, leafless wood.
‘Carnival Orange’ tolerates light frost but should be protected from severe frosts, particularly while young.
