Our garden centre, café and gift shop are run by a passionate team who love what they do. From helping you choose the perfect plant to brewing your morning coffee or wrapping a last-minute gift, every part of your visit is shaped by the care they put into what they do.

The land Warran Glen sits on has a long history. Spanning two hectares in Melbourne's north-east, it was once a gold mine before the Raper family bought the property in 1965 and set about building something quietly remarkable. They constructed showrooms, a footbridge over an ornamental creek, and a show garden planted with the latest species being brought in from overseas.

Many of those original plantings are still here today. A Giant Redwood, now 55 years old, is one of the garden's most striking features. Despite its age, it has only reached an estimated quarter of its eventual height, with a lifespan that can exceed 1,000 years. A 'Swane's Gold' pencil pine, planted in the 1970s, came from Sydney, the only place the family could source one at the time. A Kashmir Cypress with distinctive blue-tinged foliage grows alongside a weeping Blue Atlas Cedar grafted by hand by Mr Raper. Japanese maples and a variegated Chinese Elm called 'Frosty', with its beautiful natural canopy, complete the picture.
