Acacia cognata ‘UY2 Waterfall’ Standard is an attractive evergreen Australian native tree with soft, cascading foliage in rich shades of deep green. Grown as a standard, its graceful, weeping branches form a flowing canopy above a clear trunk, creating an elegant feature for garden beds and decorative pots.

Its fine, narrow foliage provides year-round interest, while small lemon-yellow, ball-shaped flowers appear amongst the leaves in spring, adding a subtle splash of seasonal colour.

With its distinctive waterfall-like habit, this ornamental wattle is particularly well suited to feature planting, courtyards and contemporary gardens. Its soft, cascading foliage also provides a beautiful contrast against more structured shrubs, ornamental grasses and architectural plants.

Care & Growing Tips

Plant in full sun to dappled shade in well-drained soil. Good drainage is important, particularly during Melbourne's cooler, wetter months, as Acacias generally dislike waterlogged conditions.

Water immediately after planting and continue watering regularly while establishing. Once established, water during extended periods of hot, dry weather. Container-grown plants will require more frequent watering.

Apply a low-phosphorus slow-release fertiliser suitable for Australian native plants once a year, preferably in spring, to support healthy growth.

Lightly trim the canopy as needed to maintain its rounded, cascading shape, removing any dead or damaged growth. Avoid heavy pruning into older, leafless wood.

As a grafted standard, provide a sturdy stake to support the trunk, particularly in exposed positions. Remove any shoots that develop below the graft to maintain the standard form.
