Acer ‘Emerald Sunset’ is a spectacular Japanese Maple known for its dramatic multi-season foliage display. Discovered by Nishiki Nursery in 2012, this standout variety delivers evolving colour throughout the year, making it a true feature tree in both contemporary and traditional gardens.

In spring, fresh green leaves emerge tipped with vibrant orange, creating a striking two-tone effect. As summer progresses, the foliage deepens in colour, before transforming into glowing scarlet red and orange in autumn. This continuous colour shift gives Emerald Sunset strong ornamental value from early growth through to leaf fall.

With its elegant form and moderate size, this variety works beautifully as a shade tree, lawn specimen or grown in a large container. It provides structure and seasonal impact without overwhelming smaller garden spaces.

Maple Tree Care
Japanese Maples are beautiful, low-maintenance trees that reward gardeners with exceptional spring and autumn colour. They prefer slightly acidic, well-drained soil and a position sheltered from harsh afternoon sun and drying winds.

Water regularly while young, allowing the soil to dry slightly between watering. Once established, watering can be reduced, though consistent moisture during hot periods will support best performance. A slow-release fertiliser in early spring can help young trees establish, but mature maples generally require minimal feeding. Pruning is rarely necessary; simply remove dead or crowded branches in summer to maintain shape and health.
