Acer palmatum ‘Kinshi’ is a distinctive Japanese Maple valued for its exceptionally fine foliage and elegant upright habit. This compact deciduous tree is admired for its narrow bamboo-like leaves, which create a delicate, textured appearance unlike most traditional Japanese maples. Its refined form and graceful structure make it a standout feature in Japanese-inspired gardens, courtyard spaces and ornamental landscapes.

In spring, fresh green foliage emerges in dense clusters along the finely branched framework, creating a soft, feathery effect. The narrow leaves maintain their bright green colour through summer, bringing texture and movement to the garden. As autumn arrives, the foliage transforms into vibrant shades of orange-yellow and gold, creating a brilliant seasonal display that highlights the tree's intricate branching structure.

Care & Growing Tips

Plant Acer palmatum ‘Kinshi’ in a sheltered position with morning sun or filtered light. Protection from hot afternoon sun and drying winds will help maintain healthy foliage and reduce the risk of leaf scorch.

Prefers cool, moisture-retentive soil enriched with organic matter and good drainage.

Water regularly during establishment and maintain consistent soil moisture during warmer months, particularly through summer.

Apply a slow-release fertiliser suitable for Japanese maples or deciduous trees in early spring as new growth begins.

Mulch around the base with organic material to help retain moisture, regulate soil temperature and improve soil structure.

Minimal pruning is required. Remove dead, damaged or crossing branches during winter dormancy if necessary while maintaining the natural form.
