Acer Palmatum Pixie - 40cm Pot

Acer palmatum ‘Pixie’ is a compact Japanese Maple prized for its rich purple foliage, dense bushy habit and manageable size. A smaller-growing alternative to larger purple-leaf maples, ‘Pixie’ brings strong colour and year-round structure to courtyards, smaller gardens and container plantings. Its refined growth habit makes it an excellent feature tree where space is limited but seasonal colour is still desired.

In spring, bright reddish-purple new growth emerges across the canopy, creating a vibrant display that continues through the warmer months. The foliage matures into deep burgundy and purple tones, maintaining strong colour throughout summer when grown in suitable conditions. As autumn approaches, the leaves develop brilliant shades of crimson and scarlet, providing a striking seasonal finale before leaf fall.

‘Pixie’ naturally forms a dense, rounded canopy with fine branching and a compact structure. Its smaller size makes it ideal for feature planting near patios, pathways and entrances, while also performing beautifully in large pots and decorative containers. Care & Growing Tips
Plant Acer palmatum ‘Pixie’ in a sheltered position with morning sun or filtered light. Protection from harsh afternoon sun and drying winds will help maintain healthy foliage and rich leaf colour.

Prefers cool, deep, moisture-retentive soil enriched with organic matter and good drainage.

Water regularly during establishment and maintain consistent soil moisture during warmer months, particularly through summer.

Apply a slow-release fertiliser suitable for Japanese maples or deciduous trees in early spring as new growth begins.

Mulch around the root zone with organic material to help retain moisture, regulate soil temperature and improve soil structure.

Minimal pruning is required. Remove dead, damaged or crossing branches during winter dormancy if necessary.
