Alstroemeria Indian Summer - 18cm Pot

AAlstroemeria ‘Indian Summer’ is a striking, long-flowering perennial admired for its warm orange-toned flowers and distinctive dark foliage. Part of the Elite Series from Poplar Grove Nursery, this variety has been selected for its extended flowering period and low-maintenance nature.

The vibrant orange flowers stand out beautifully against the plant's deep, dark foliage, creating a rich contrast that brings colour and interest to garden beds, borders and decorative containers.

‘Indian Summer’ has a taller growth habit than the compact Elite Alstroemeria varieties, making it particularly useful for adding height and colour to mixed perennial plantings.

Selected for its ability to flower over an extended period, ‘Indian Summer’ can produce blooms throughout much of the year under suitable growing conditions. Its flowers are also excellent for cutting, providing long-lasting colour in indoor floral arrangements.

This variety grows well in large pots, garden beds and rockeries. Once established, it can tolerate short dry periods, although regular watering encourages healthy growth and continued flowering.

Mature size: approximately 50–90cm high × 40–80cm wide.

Care & Growing Tips
Position: Plant in full sun to part shade. A position with some afternoon protection can be beneficial during Melbourne's hottest summer weather.

Soil: Prefers fertile, well-drained soil. For container growing, use a quality premium potting mix with good drainage.

Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, ‘Indian Summer’ can tolerate short dry periods but performs best with consistent moisture, particularly during warmer weather. Regular drip irrigation is beneficial.

Mulching: Apply organic mulch around the base to help retain moisture, regulate soil temperature and reduce weeds.

Fertilising: Apply an organic fertiliser seasonally, following the manufacturer's directions, to encourage healthy growth and ongoing flowering.

Flowering: Selected for its extended flowering period, with blooms possible throughout much of the year under suitable growing conditions.

Pruning & Maintenance: Once flowers have finished, gently pull the entire spent flower stem from the base of the plant to encourage fresh growth. Remove dead or yellowing leaves in the same way. Healthy rhizomes will produce new shoots.

Cut Flowers: Produces long-lasting flowers suitable for indoor arrangements. Harvest flowering stems as needed, taking care not to damage surrounding growth.

Container Growing: Suitable for large decorative pots and planters. Choose a container with adequate space for its mature growth and ensure good drainage.

Seasonal Care: Growth and flowering may slow during colder weather. Remove tired foliage as required and allow healthy rhizomes to produce fresh growth when conditions improve.
