Description
Argyranthemum ‘Colossus Raspberry Ice’ is a compact, long-flowering daisy admired for its large raspberry-pink flowers, abundant blooms and attractive green foliage. Part of the Elite Series from Poplar Grove Nursery, this variety has been selected for its compact growth habit and extended flowering performance.
Producing generous flushes of large, daisy-like flowers in rich raspberry-pink tones, ‘Colossus Raspberry Ice’ creates a colourful display above its finely divided green foliage.
During nursery trials, this variety stood out for its compact habit, prolific flowering and ability to continually produce new buds and blooms.
The main flowering period extends from spring through to autumn, providing months of colour in garden beds, borders and decorative containers.
Its naturally bushy growth habit makes it particularly useful for mixed perennial gardens, courtyard pots and garden borders. It can also be planted alongside other flowering perennials to create a colourful seasonal display.
Once established, ‘Colossus Raspberry Ice’ can tolerate short dry periods, although regular watering and occasional pruning help maintain healthy growth and encourage repeat flowering.
Mature size: approximately 50–80cm tall and 50–80cm wide, depending on growing conditions and pruning.
Care & Growing Tips
Position: Plant in full sun to part shade. Protect from harsh afternoon sun during Melbourne's hottest summer weather to help prevent leaf and flower damage.
Soil: Prefers fertile, well-drained soil. For container growing, use a quality premium potting mix with good drainage.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, ‘Colossus Raspberry Ice’ can tolerate dry periods but performs best with consistent watering, particularly during warmer weather. Regular drip irrigation is beneficial.
Mulching: Apply organic mulch around the base to help retain moisture, regulate soil temperature and reduce weeds. Keep mulch clear of the main stems.
Fertilising: Apply an organic fertiliser seasonally to encourage healthy growth. A suitable liquid fertiliser can also be used after pruning to support fresh growth and repeat flowering, following the manufacturer's directions.
Flowering: Produces abundant raspberry-pink flowers, with the main flowering period from spring through to autumn under suitable growing conditions.
Pruning: After flowering, or when the plant becomes overgrown, prune to maintain a compact, bushy shape and encourage fresh growth. Avoid pruning during extreme heat to reduce the risk of sunburn.
Deadheading: Remove spent flowers regularly to maintain a tidy appearance and encourage continued flowering.
Container Growing: Well suited to decorative pots and mixed planters. Ensure containers have adequate drainage and monitor moisture during hot weather.
Seasonal Care: Protect plants from extreme summer heat and maintain consistent watering during dry periods. Occasional trimming helps encourage fresh flowering growth.
