Azalea Scarlet Dragon - 17cm Pot

Azalea ‘Scarlet Dragon’ is a classic Kurume Azalea with a naturally compact habit and masses of vibrant red flowers. The small blooms create an impressive display against its fine, glossy dark green foliage, with flowering from autumn through spring and a particularly strong display in spring.

Its compact, spreading growth makes ‘Scarlet Dragon’ particularly effective planted in groups, along borders or beneath taller trees where it can enjoy filtered light. It also responds well to clipping and can be shaped into the rounded flowering mounds often seen in Japanese-inspired gardens.

Well suited to pots, ‘Scarlet Dragon’ is also a beautiful choice for shaded patios, courtyards and balconies.

Mature size: approximately 80cm high × 1 metre wide

Care & Growing Tips
Plant in part shade in fertile, slightly acidic, well-drained soil. Protect from harsh direct sunlight and ensure plants receive adequate water, particularly during extended dry periods.
Prune after flowering to maintain a compact, dense shape. Feed with an Azalea-specific fertiliser in spring and again in late summer, and apply mulch annually to help retain soil moisture.
Avoid overhead watering where possible. Remove and dispose of any flowers affected by petal blight and monitor plants for common pests such as aphids and mites.
