Blueberry ‘Northland’ is a compact, hardy blueberry variety prized for its sweet, richly flavoured fruit and strong ornamental value. Naturally forming a rounded, tidy shrub, Northland is an excellent choice for edible gardens, patios and smaller spaces where productivity and appearance both matter.
In spring, delicate white flowers cover the branches, followed by crops of dark-fleshed blueberries with a distinctive wild-berry flavour. The fruit becomes sweeter the longer it remains on the bush, rewarding patient harvesters with excellent fresh-eating quality. In autumn, the foliage deepens to attractive red tones, adding seasonal colour long after fruiting has finished.
Self-fertile and easy to grow, Northland will produce fruit on its own, making it ideal for compact gardens and container growing. For increased yields, planting alongside another variety such as Blueberry ‘Blue Rose’ is recommended.
Care & Growing Tips
Plant in full sun to part shade in well-drained, acidic soil. A premium azalea or rhododendron potting mix is ideal for container growing. Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during flowering and fruiting. Mulch to maintain soil moisture and temperature.
