Bush Rose Mutabilis - 20cm Pot

‘Mutabilis’ is a distinctive heritage China Rose known for its constantly changing flower colour. Simple, open blooms emerge in warm coppery yellow before gradually changing through shades of apricot and pink to a rich pink-crimson as they age. With flowers at different stages appearing together, the bush develops a beautiful multi-coloured effect.

Also known as the Butterfly Rose, its delicate single blooms seem to hover across the plant like butterflies. The flowers are produced repeatedly throughout the season on an open, spreading shrub with dark plum-coloured stems and attractive dark green-grey foliage.

Vigorous, healthy and capable of forming a substantial shrub, ‘Mutabilis’ is particularly effective where it has room to develop its naturally informal shape.

This much-loved heritage variety was inducted into the World Federation of Rose Societies Old Rose Hall of Fame in 2012.

Mature size: approximately 2.5 metres high

Care & Growing Tips
Plant in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil and allow plenty of room for its spreading growth. Water deeply while establishing and during extended dry periods. Feed established roses in late August and again after the main flowering flushes. Mulch in spring and deadhead as desired, although leaving some ageing blooms allows its characteristic colour-changing display to be fully appreciated. Prune in July, or August in colder and frost-prone areas, removing dead or weak growth and lightly shaping established plants.
