Callistemon ‘Kings Park Special’ is one of the most reliable and widely loved bottlebrush varieties, known for its vibrant red flowers, hardy nature and strong garden performance. Flowering in spring and again in autumn, it produces masses of bright red bottlebrush blooms that are highly attractive to nectar-feeding birds, bees and pollinators.

This versatile Australian native can be grown as a large shrub or small tree, forming a dense, spreading habit with attractive, textured bark. Whether used as a feature plant, informal hedge or screen, Kings Park Special delivers year-round structure along with seasonal bursts of colour.

Extremely tough and adaptable, it performs well across a wide range of soil types and climates, including coastal conditions, drought and even heavy frost once established.

Mature size: approximately 3–4 metres high × 3–4 metres wide

Care & Growing Tips
Plant in full sun to light shade in well-drained soil. This variety tolerates a wide range of soil types, including sandy, loamy and clay soils, as well as poorer conditions.

Water regularly while establishing, then reduce, as it becomes drought tolerant once mature. Supplementary watering during extended dry periods will encourage stronger flowering.

Prune after flowering to maintain shape or encourage denser growth. This variety is very forgiving and can be cut back hard if needed, reshooting readily from dormant buds. Apply a native fertiliser in spring if required and mulch annually to retain moisture and improve soil health.

Ideal for
– Hedging and screening
– Feature trees or large shrubs
– Windbreaks and boundary planting
– Coastal and exposed sites
– Wildlife-friendly gardens
– Street or larger landscape planting
