Camellia ‘Brushfields Yellow’ is one of the most popular and reliable camellias, prized for its elegant blooms and neat, tidy growth habit. This evergreen shrub produces an abundance of creamy white flowers with a soft primrose-yellow centre, creating a refined and eye-catching display through the cooler months.

Naturally compact and well-structured, Brushfields Yellow performs consistently in a wide range of garden settings. It can be grown as a feature plant, clipped into a hedge, shaped into topiary or planted in large containers, making it a versatile choice for both formal and informal gardens.

Adaptable to semi-shade and protected sunny positions (morning sun preferred), this variety thrives with good soil preparation and consistent moisture, particularly during establishment.

Care & Growing Tips
Plant in full shade to part shade, with protection from harsh afternoon sun. Prepare the soil by digging a hole at least twice the width of the pot and slightly deeper, incorporating composted organic matter. In heavier soils, raised beds are recommended to improve drainage.

Position the plant so the top of the potting mix sits level with the surrounding soil, firm gently and water in well. Apply a layer of mulch (approximately 5cm thick), keeping it clear of the trunk, to retain moisture and protect the roots.

Keep soil consistently moist during establishment, which may take several months to a year depending on planting time. Once established, watering requirements can be reduced.

Prune lightly in early spring to maintain shape—avoid late pruning as this may reduce winter flowering. Feed in spring with a quality general-purpose fertiliser, with a second application in mid to late summer if needed.

For hedging or screening, plant approximately 1.2–2 metres apart depending on the desired density.

Ideal for
– Feature planting
– Formal hedging and screening
– Topiary and shaped forms
– Containers and courtyard gardens
– Shaded garden areas
