Camellia japonica ‘Hawaii’ is a stunning evergreen camellia admired for its large, soft pink peony-form flowers and graceful spreading habit. Plant Camellia japonica ‘Hawaii’ in part shade or a position with morning sun and protection from harsh afternoon sun. Some established plants will tolerate more sun if adequate moisture is maintained.

Prefers slightly acidic, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. In heavy clay soils, plant into a raised bed or improve drainage with compost and organic material.

Water regularly during establishment and maintain consistent soil moisture during dry periods. Avoid allowing the soil to dry out completely.

Apply a slow-release fertiliser formulated for camellias and other acid-loving plants in spring after flowering. Avoid fertilisers containing lime.

Mulch generously with quality organic mulch to help conserve moisture, suppress weeds and improve soil health.

Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape. Older plants can also be rejuvenated with more substantial pruning if required.
