Clematis ‘Shirotaka’ is a compact deciduous climber producing elegant creamy white flowers with a subtle pale green central bar. The large blooms measure approximately 12 to 15cm across and appear from early spring through to autumn, providing a long season of soft, refined colour.

Developed by renowned Japanese breeder Hiroshi Hayakawa and introduced to Australia by Alameda Homestead Nursery in 2024, ‘Shirotaka’ grows to a manageable 1.5 to 2 metres. Its compact habit makes it particularly useful for smaller gardens, containers and climbing structures where a less vigorous Clematis is preferred.

The name ‘Shirotaka’ comes from Japanese, with ‘Shiro’ meaning white, ‘ta’ meaning many and ‘ka’ meaning flower, reflecting its abundance of white blooms.
‘Shirotaka’ belongs to Clematis Pruning Group 2, meaning it requires only light pruning and should not be cut back hard in winter.

Mature size: approximately 1.5–2 metres high
Pruning group: Group 2

Care & Growing Tips
Plant in full sun to part shade in moist, well-drained soil. Keep the root zone cool and shaded, with consistent moisture during the growing season while avoiding waterlogged conditions. Provide a trellis, arch or other suitable structure for the stems to climb.
As a Group 2 Clematis, prune lightly. Remove dead or weak growth as required and lightly prune after the first flowering flush to encourage fresh growth and further flowering.

Ideal for
- Trellises and climbing frames
- Garden arches
- Pots and containers
- Courtyards and smaller gardens
- Cottage-style gardens
- Mixed garden borders
- Long-season flowering
- White and green planting schemes
