Clematis Warsaw Nike - 20cm Pot

Clematis ‘Warsaw Nike’ is a beautiful deciduous climbing vine admired for its large, rich reddish-purple flowers and extended flowering season. Its deep, velvety-looking blooms create a striking contrast against fresh green foliage, making it an excellent choice for adding colour and vertical interest to the garden.

Producing flowers approximately 12.5–15cm across, ‘Warsaw Nike’ features richly coloured blooms that stand out beautifully when trained over trellises, archways and other garden supports.

Flowering from late spring through to autumn, this attractive Clematis provides a long season of colour under suitable growing conditions. Its moderate climbing habit makes it particularly well suited to fences, trellises and garden structures.

Growing to approximately 2.4 metres high, ‘Warsaw Nike’ works beautifully in cottage-style gardens, mixed borders and alongside other climbing plants. Its deep reddish-purple flowers complement white, pale pink and soft lavender flowering varieties.

As a deciduous climber, ‘Warsaw Nike’ loses its foliage during winter before producing fresh growth and flowers as the weather warms.

Mature size: approximately 1.8–2.4 metres high, with spread depending on the support and growing conditions.

Care & Growing Tips
Plant in full sun to part shade, ideally in a position receiving morning sunlight with protection from harsh afternoon sun. In Melbourne gardens, some afternoon shade can help protect the rich flower colour during hot summer weather.

Clematis ‘Warsaw Nike’ prefers fertile, moist but well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Keep the roots cool by applying mulch around the base or planting low-growing companion plants nearby.

Water regularly during establishment and maintain consistent soil moisture throughout the warmer months, particularly while the plant is actively growing and flowering.

Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring to encourage healthy growth and flowering.

Pruning Group 3: Clematis ‘Warsaw Nike’ flowers on the current season's new growth and benefits from hard pruning in late winter or early spring.

Cut stems back to approximately 20–40cm above ground level, just above a pair of strong, healthy buds. This encourages vigorous new growth and helps maintain a manageable plant with flowers developing on fresh stems.

As a Group 3 Clematis, ‘Warsaw Nike’ can be pruned hard each year without sacrificing its main flowering display.

Provide a trellis, climbing frame or other suitable support for the stems to climb. Clematis climbs by wrapping its leaf stalks around slender supports, so fine trellis or garden wire is particularly useful.
