Description
Climbing Rose Florentina (Kortrameilo) is a beautiful repeat-flowering climber producing large clusters of clear red blooms with a classic, old-fashioned cupped shape. Its richly coloured flowers have a light fragrance, bringing a lovely combination of colour and traditional rose charm to the garden.
Part of the Kordes Climbing Max® Collection, this moderate-sized climber is particularly valued for its soft, flexible canes, which are easy to train along trellises, arches and other garden supports. With very few thorns, it is also more manageable when tying in and maintaining new growth.
The glossy green foliage has excellent disease resistance and heat tolerance, making this a reliable choice for Australian gardens. Its good repeat-flowering habit provides further displays of red blooms throughout the growing season.
Reaching approximately 2.5 metres tall, 'Florentina' is well suited to gardens where a flowering climber is wanted without the size and vigour of larger climbing roses.
Mature size: approximately 2.5 metres high
Fragrance: Lightly fragrant
Care & Growing Tips
Plant in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil, ideally receiving at least six hours of direct sunlight each day.
Water thoroughly after planting and regularly while establishing, particularly during extended periods of hot, dry weather. Apply mulch in spring to help retain soil moisture and suppress weeds, keeping it clear of the base of the plant.
Feed established roses in late August and again after the main flowering flushes to encourage healthy growth and continued flowering.
Provide a sturdy trellis, arch or climbing support and train the flexible main canes horizontally or at an angle where possible. This encourages flowering shoots to develop along the length of the stems, rather than concentrating blooms at the top.
Prune in July, or August in colder and frost-prone areas, removing dead, damaged or weak growth. Shorten flowering side shoots while retaining healthy main climbing canes to maintain the plant's structure.
Remove spent flowers throughout the growing season to encourage further blooms. Although this variety has excellent disease resistance, good airflow and general garden hygiene will help maintain healthy foliage.
