Hardenbergia Free N Easy - 20cm Pot

Hardenbergia ‘Free ‘n Easy’ is a vigorous Australian native climber and groundcover, prized for its masses of delicate lavender-tinged white flowers and lush evergreen foliage. Flowering from winter into spring, this fast-growing variety creates a beautiful display of soft colour while providing excellent coverage for fences, walls, embankments or large open spaces. Tough, adaptable and easy to grow, it performs exceptionally well in Melbourne and south-east Victorian gardens.

The subtle mauve and white pea-shaped flowers are produced in abundance, attracting bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects to the garden. Its dense, light green foliage provides year-round coverage, whether allowed to scramble naturally as a groundcover or trained to climb over a trellis, fence or pergola. Left unpruned, it can spread or climb up to 3 metres, but it responds well to regular trimming if a more compact shape is desired.

Highly versatile, ‘Free ‘n Easy’ is equally suited to cottage gardens, native landscapes, coastal gardens and modern outdoor spaces, where its soft flowers and vigorous growth create an attractive, low-maintenance feature.

Care & Growing Tips
Plant in a full sun to light shade position. In Melbourne, flowering is generally heaviest in full sun, although plants also perform well with some afternoon shade.

Prefers well-drained soil and adapts to a wide range of soil types, including loam, sandy loam and clay loam, provided drainage is good. It also grows well in large containers using a quality potting mix.

Water regularly during establishment. Once established, ‘Free ‘n Easy’ is drought tolerant and generally only requires occasional watering during extended dry periods.

Feed lightly in spring with a low-phosphorus fertiliser formulated for Australian native plants if required.

Prune after flowering to maintain shape, encourage dense growth and promote prolific flowering the following season. It responds well to regular trimming and can easily be kept within its desired size.

Light frost tolerant once established and well suited to Melbourne's temperate climate.
