Hydrangea OBSIDIAN™ Black Stem White Knight - 20cm Pot

Hydrangea ‘White Knight’ is a striking deciduous shrub from the Obsidian™ Hydrangea Collection, admired for its clear white flowers and distinctive, almost black stems. The contrast between the dark stems, fresh green foliage and bright white blooms creates an elegant display in shaded gardens.

Beginning in late spring, ‘White Knight’ produces generous clusters of white flowers throughout summer, with occasional blooms continuing into autumn. Its long, dark stems add an extra element of interest, particularly when the flowers are used in floral arrangements.

With its compact growth habit, ‘White Knight’ is well suited to smaller gardens, courtyards and decorative containers. It is an excellent choice for brightening shaded garden beds, patios and outdoor entertaining areas.

The beautiful white blooms are particularly suited to cut flower arrangements, making this variety a lovely addition to gardens where flowers can be enjoyed both outdoors and inside the home.

Care & Growing Tips
Plant in part shade to full shade in well-drained soil. In Melbourne gardens, a sheltered position with morning light and protection from hot afternoon sun is ideal.

‘White Knight’ prefers soil that retains some moisture without becoming waterlogged. Water regularly during establishment and provide occasional deep watering during extended periods of hot, dry weather.

Apply a slow-release, all-purpose fertiliser in early spring to encourage healthy growth and flowering.

Mulch around the base to help retain soil moisture and keep the roots cool during summer, ensuring mulch is kept clear of the main stems.

Remove spent flowers as needed to maintain a tidy appearance. Avoid heavy pruning, as Hydrangea macrophylla varieties commonly flower on older wood. If pruning is required, lightly trim after flowering and remove dead or damaged stems.

‘White Knight’ can also be enjoyed in a decorative container indoors for a short period before being planted outside in a suitable shaded position.
