Hydrangea White Lace Cap - 20cm Pot

Hydrangea macrophylla White Lacecap is a beautiful deciduous shrub admired for its delicate white lacecap flowers and lush green foliage. A traditional garden favourite, this Hydrangea brings an elegant, timeless look to shaded garden beds, cottage gardens and decorative containers.

Unlike the rounded flower heads of mophead Hydrangeas, Lacecap Hydrangeas produce distinctive, flattened flower clusters, with small flowers in the centre surrounded by a ring of larger, showier white blooms. This delicate arrangement creates an attractive display throughout spring and summer.

With its naturally rounded growth habit, White Lacecap Hydrangea is well suited to feature planting, mixed shrub borders and traditional garden settings. Its long-lasting white flowers are also excellent for cutting and displaying indoors, particularly in fresh floral arrangements and wedding displays.

Growing up to 2 metres high, this classic Hydrangea pairs beautifully with other traditional garden favourites, including Camellias, Magnolias and Azaleas.

Unlike blue and pink Hydrangeas, White Lacecap Hydrangeas maintain their white flower colour regardless of soil pH, making them a reliable choice for white-themed gardens.

Care & Growing Tips
Plant in part shade, ideally in a sheltered position protected from harsh afternoon sun and strong winds. In Melbourne gardens, morning sunlight with afternoon shade is ideal.

White Lacecap Hydrangeas prefer fertile, well-drained soil that retains consistent moisture. Enriching the soil with organic matter before planting can help improve moisture retention and support healthy growth.

Keep the soil consistently moist during spring and summer, particularly during hot weather and while the plant is flowering. Reduce watering during winter when the plant is dormant.

Apply a slow-release fertiliser in late spring to encourage healthy growth and flowering. An annual application of mulch will help retain soil moisture, regulate soil temperature and keep the roots cool during warmer weather.

Prune after flowering to maintain shape and remove spent blooms. As Hydrangea macrophylla generally flowers on older wood, avoid unnecessarily hard pruning, which can reduce flowering the following season. Remove dead or damaged stems as required.

White Lacecap Hydrangeas maintain their white flower colour across different soil pH levels, so soil amendments to alter flower colour are generally unnecessary.

Monitor for common pests and diseases, including aphids, mites and powdery mildew, and treat if necessary.
