Juniperus scopulorum ‘Blue Arrow’, commonly known as Blue Arrow Juniper, is a narrow upright evergreen conifer valued for its striking blue-grey foliage and strong architectural shape. Its slim pencil-like form makes it one of the best conifers for tight spaces where height, structure and year-round colour are needed without taking up much width.

The dense foliage maintains its silvery-blue colour throughout the year, bringing cool contrast to garden beds, formal landscapes and driveway planting. Unlike broader conifers, ‘Blue Arrow’ stays exceptionally narrow as it matures, creating clean vertical lines that work particularly well in modern gardens and symmetrical planting schemes. Its tidy growth habit requires very little shaping to maintain its form.

This hardy evergreen is ideal for screening narrow spaces, framing entrances or adding height to smaller gardens without overwhelming surrounding plants. It performs especially well planted in rows along driveways, beside pathways or in formal courtyard settings where space is limited. ‘Blue Arrow’ also grows successfully in large containers, making it suitable for patios and entryways where a structured evergreen feature is wanted year-round.

Mature size: approximately 2-3 metres high × 30–50 centimetres wide in 10 years

Care & Growing Tips
Plant Blue Arrow Juniper in a full sun position for best foliage colour and dense growth.

Prefers well-drained soil and adapts well to sandy, loamy and poorer soils once established. Avoid consistently wet or poorly drained positions.

Water regularly during establishment. Once mature, it is relatively drought tolerant and requires only occasional deep watering during extended dry periods.

Apply a slow-release fertiliser in spring if needed to encourage healthy growth and foliage colour.

Very little pruning is required. Light trimming can be done to maintain shape if desired, though the plant naturally keeps its narrow upright form.

Highly tolerant of frost, wind and exposed conditions once established, making it a reliable low maintenance choice for formal and contemporary landscapes.

Ideal for
– Narrow hedging and screening
– Driveway and pathway planting
– Formal and contemporary gardens
– Large pots and container growing
– Vertical feature planting
– Small gardens needing height without width
