Juniperus Icee Blue - 14cm Pot

Juniperus horizontalis ‘Icee Blue’, commonly known as Icee Blue Juniper, is a low-growing evergreen conifer prized for its striking icy-blue foliage and spreading groundcover habit. This hardy creeping juniper forms a dense carpet of soft textured foliage that works beautifully spilling over retaining walls, weaving between rocks or filling open spaces with year-round colour.

The foliage maintains a bright silvery-blue tone through most of the year, bringing cool contrast to garden beds and stonework. In colder climates, the foliage can take on subtle purple hues during winter, adding another layer of seasonal interest. Its naturally spreading habit creates a flowing layered effect that softens hard landscaping and suppresses weeds once established.

‘Icee Blue’ is particularly well suited to rockeries, slopes, retaining walls and low maintenance garden designs where a durable evergreen groundcover is needed. It thrives in open sunny positions and handles dry conditions well once established. Its spreading growth also makes it useful for filling difficult spaces between larger shrubs and feature plants without becoming overly tall or demanding regular pruning.

Care & Growing Tips
Plant Juniper ‘Icee Blue’ in a full sun position for best foliage colour and dense growth.

Prefers well-drained soil and adapts well to sandy, loamy and poorer soils. Avoid consistently wet or poorly drained areas.

Water regularly during establishment. Once mature, it is relatively drought tolerant and only requires occasional deep watering during extended dry periods.

Apply a light slow-release fertiliser in spring if needed to encourage healthy new growth.

Very little pruning is required. Trim lightly only if needed to control spread or tidy edges.

Highly tolerant of frost, dry conditions and exposed positions once established.
