Juniperus Sabina Savin Juniper - 20cm Pot

Juniperus sabina, commonly known as Savin Juniper, is a hardy low-growing evergreen shrub valued for its spreading habit and ability to thrive in difficult garden conditions. Widely used in landscape planting, this tough juniper forms a dense groundcover that works well on slopes, embankments and open garden areas where reliable year-round structure is needed.

Young foliage often emerges with soft blue-green tones before maturing into deeper dark green shades as the plant ages. The dense layered branches gradually spread outward to form a broad low-growing mat that helps suppress weeds and stabilise soil. Its evergreen foliage remains attractive throughout the year and handles harsh weather conditions with ease.

Savin Juniper is particularly useful in low maintenance landscapes due to its adaptability and resilience. It performs well in hot dry positions where many other groundcovers struggle. Its spreading habit makes it ideal for mass planting, erosion control and filling difficult spaces in larger gardens and commercial landscapes. Once established, it requires very little upkeep beyond occasional shaping if desired.

Care & Growing Tips
Plant Juniperus sabina in full sun. Best foliage density and colour will develop in sunnier positions.

Prefers well-drained soil and adapts to sandy, rocky and poorer soils. Avoid consistently wet or poorly drained conditions.

Water regularly during establishment. Once mature, it is highly drought tolerant and suited to low water gardens.

Apply a light slow-release fertiliser in spring if needed to encourage healthy growth.

Very little pruning is required. Light trimming can be carried out to shape or manage spread if desired.

Highly tolerant of frost, dry conditions, exposed sites and a wide range of climates once established.
