Juniperus Squamata Blue Carpet - 20cm pot

Juniperus squamata ‘Blue Carpet’ is a fast-growing evergreen groundcover prized for its vivid steel-blue foliage and dense spreading habit. This hardy creeping juniper forms a broad carpet of soft textured foliage that brings year-round colour and structure to rockeries, slopes and low maintenance landscape plantings.

The bright blue foliage remains attractive throughout the year, creating strong contrast against stone, gravel and green shrubs. Its low spreading growth softens retaining walls, garden edges and sloping areas while helping suppress weeds as the plant matures. In cooler weather, the foliage may deepen slightly in tone, adding seasonal variation without losing its overall blue appearance.

‘Blue Carpet’ is one of the most widely planted blue junipers due to its reliability, vigorous growth and adaptability to difficult conditions. It works particularly well on banks and slopes for erosion control, as a cascading plant over walls or as a durable evergreen filler between larger shrubs and feature trees. Its broad spreading habit makes it highly effective for covering open ground quickly in sunny positions.

Care & Growing Tips

Plant Juniperus squamata ‘Blue Carpet’ in a full sun or very lightly shaded position for best foliage colour and healthy dense growth.

Requires well-drained soil and performs particularly well in sandy, rocky and poorer soils. Avoid heavy wet soils or poorly drained positions.

Water regularly during establishment. Once mature, it is highly drought tolerant and suited to low water gardens.

Apply a light slow-release fertiliser in spring if needed to encourage fresh growth.

Very little pruning is required. Light trimming can be carried out to control spread or tidy edges if desired.

Highly tolerant of frost, exposed conditions and dry climates once established.
