Kobenhavner Pot -

Kobenhavner, the Danish word for a Copenhagener, has royal roots. Years ago Steffen Berg found a set of old clay pots in a disused nursery, made for Denmark’s Fredensborg Palace around 1860. Kobenhavner is his take on them. It was one of the first pots Bergs ever made, and it’s still one of their most loved.

A quiet band of scales circles the pot just below the rim. The detail is restrained, so the pot looks noble without trying too hard. Each size is a little wider than it is tall, and the pots stack neatly when they’re not in use.

Choose the size to suit your plant. The 14cm suits herbs, bulbs or a small succulent on a sill. The 18cm is right for ferns, pothos or a potted rosemary on a shelf. The 21cm holds a larger houseplant or a full pot of flowers by the door. Soak the pot in water before planting so the clay doesn’t draw moisture from fresh soil. The terracotta darkens when wet and pales as it dries, so you can see when your plant needs a drink. Every pot is finished by hand, so small variations in colour and texture are part of its character.
