Liquidambar Slender Silhouette - 40cm Pot

Liquidambar styraciflua ‘Slender Silhouette’ is a narrow upright form of the classic Sweetgum tree, grown for its strong autumn colour and exceptionally slim growth habit. This deciduous ornamental tree brings the dramatic seasonal display of a traditional Liquidambar into smaller gardens and tighter planting spaces where a wider shade tree may not be practical.

Throughout spring and summer, the tree carries dense dark green star-shaped foliage that creates a clean vertical presence in the landscape. As autumn arrives, the leaves transform into rich shades of yellow, orange, burgundy and purplish red, often displaying multiple colours at once. Decorative round woody seed capsules remain hanging on the branches after leaf fall, adding texture and winter interest.

Unlike standard Liquidambar trees, ‘Slender Silhouette’ maintains a much narrower profile while still providing height and strong seasonal impact. Its upright columnar habit makes it ideal for lining driveways, framing entrances, creating vertical accents and adding autumn colour to narrow garden beds. It works particularly well in contemporary landscapes and suburban gardens where space is limited but a feature deciduous tree is still desired.

Care & Growing Tips
Plant Liquidambar ‘Slender Silhouette’ in a full sun position for best autumn colour and healthy growth.

Prefers deep, well-drained soil but adapts well to a range of soil types including loam and clay provided drainage is reasonable.

Water regularly during establishment and during extended dry periods while young. Established trees are relatively hardy but benefit from occasional deep watering in prolonged dry weather.

Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring if required, especially in poorer soils.

Very little pruning is needed beyond removing lower branches or shaping while young. Prune during winter dormancy if necessary.

Suitable for cool to temperate climates where autumn colour develops most strongly.
