Mollis Azalea ‘Gibraltar’ is one of the most striking deciduous azaleas, renowned for its masses of vibrant orange-red flowers that create a spectacular spring display. A member of the highly regarded Knaphill Azalea group, this beautiful flowering shrub is prized for its rich colour, reliable performance and ability to brighten shaded garden spaces. Its bold blooms and attractive seasonal foliage make it a standout feature in woodland, cottage and cool-climate gardens.

In spring, ‘Gibraltar’ becomes covered in large clusters of deep orange flowers flushed with rich red tones. The blooms feature softly ruffled petals that add texture and depth to the display. As the seasons progress, the foliage develops into a lush green canopy before often producing attractive shades of gold, orange and red in autumn.

Prefers humus-rich, well-drained soil with plenty of organic matter. Slightly acidic soil conditions are ideal.

Water regularly during establishment and during periods of extended heat or dry weather. Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.

Apply a fertiliser formulated for azaleas and rhododendrons after flowering to support healthy growth and future blooms.

Deadhead spent flowers to encourage stronger flowering the following season.

Prune lightly after flowering if shaping is required. Avoid pruning later in the season as flower buds for the following year may be removed.
