Morus ‘Shahtoot’ White Mulberry is a fast-growing fruiting tree prized for its unusually long, creamy-white berries and attractive spreading canopy. Originally from regions around Pakistan and the Himalayas, this deciduous mulberry produces sweet fruit with a flavour often compared to honey or honeydew melon. Unlike darker mulberry varieties, the pale fruit does not leave heavy stains, making it a practical choice for home gardens, entertaining areas and family spaces.

Through summer, elongated clusters of white fruit develop beneath the lush green foliage, often hidden naturally within the canopy where birds are less likely to spot them. The dark green leaves create dense summer shade, while the bare winter framework allows warming winter sun through to the garden. Its rough trunk and broad spreading habit also give the tree good ornamental value year-round.

Mature size: approximately 5 metres high.

Care & Growing Tips

Plant Morus ‘Shahtoot’ in a full sun position for best fruit production and healthy growth. A sheltered site with good airflow is ideal.

This mulberry adapts well to a wide range of soil types including sandy, loamy and clay soils, provided drainage is reasonable. It tolerates acidic, neutral and alkaline conditions.

Water regularly during establishment. Once mature, Shahtoot mulberry is relatively drought tolerant and generally only requires occasional deep watering during extended dry periods.

Apply a balanced fruit tree fertiliser in spring to support healthy growth and fruiting. Mulching around the base will help retain soil moisture and regulate soil temperature.

Prune during winter dormancy to maintain shape, improve airflow and control size if needed.

Suitable for temperate and warm climates and handles summer heat well once established.

Ideal for
– Edible and productive gardens
– Shade planting in backyards
– Feature trees and lawn specimens
– Family gardens with lower staining fruit
– Courtyards and larger outdoor spaces
– Home fruit growing and summer harvesting
