Orange ‘Mediterranean Sweet’ is a productive citrus tree valued for its deliciously sweet, juicy fruit and reliable winter harvests. Producing oranges with a thin skin and exceptionally high juice content, this variety is an excellent choice for enjoying fresh from the tree or squeezing into homemade juice.

A reliable cropper, ‘Mediterranean Sweet’ produces fruit that typically ripens in mid-winter, from July through to August in Australian conditions. Its sweet flavour and generous juice content make it a rewarding addition to the home garden.

Like other orange trees, ‘Mediterranean Sweet’ has attractive evergreen foliage, providing year-round greenery alongside its seasonal fruit.

Well suited to sunny, sheltered positions, this citrus variety is an excellent choice for gardeners looking to grow their own sweet, juicy oranges.

Harvest: July to August (mid-winter)

Care & Growing Tips

Plant in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil, preferably in a sheltered position protected from strong winds and heavy frost.

Water regularly while establishing and during extended periods of hot, dry weather. Consistent moisture is particularly important during flowering and fruit development to support healthy fruit production.

Feed with a citrus-specific fertiliser in spring and late summer, following the manufacturer's application instructions. Citrus trees benefit from regular feeding to support healthy foliage, flowering and fruiting.

Apply mulch around the base to help retain soil moisture and suppress weeds, keeping it clear of the trunk to prevent moisture-related problems.

Prune lightly in late winter to maintain a balanced shape and remove dead, damaged or crossing branches. Avoid heavy pruning, as this can reduce future fruit production.

Protect young trees from frost, particularly during establishment. Mature trees can tolerate light frosts but may still require protection during severe cold weather.

Harvest oranges when fully coloured and sweet to taste. Citrus fruit does not continue to ripen once picked, so allow it to develop its flavour on the tree.
