Description

Dwarf Peach ‘Crimson Rocket’ is a unique columnar peach tree that produces full-sized, flavoursome fruit on a narrow, upright tree. Perfect for smaller gardens, courtyards and large pots, this space-saving variety grows vertically rather than spreading wide, allowing home gardeners to enjoy fresh peaches where traditional fruit trees simply won't fit. Its attractive form also makes it an ornamental feature in edible landscapes.
In spring, the tree is covered in beautiful pink blossom before developing medium to large peaches that ripen in late March. The fruit has striking crimson-red skin with sweet yellow freestone flesh and a delicate flavour with a slight tart finish. Ideal for eating fresh, it is equally suited to jams, stewing, baking and preserving.
Thanks to its naturally narrow columnar habit, Dwarf Crimson Rocket is ideal for planting along fences, in narrow garden beds or as a feature in decorative pots. The dwarfing rootstock keeps the tree compact and easy to manage while still producing generous crops of quality fruit.
Mature size: approximately 2.5 metres high × 1–1.5 metres wide.
Pollination: Dwarf Peach ‘Crimson Rocket’ is self-fertile, so only one tree is required to produce fruit.
Care & Growing Tips
Plant in a full sun position with at least six hours of direct sunlight each day for the best flowering and fruit production. In Melbourne's hotter summers, protection from harsh afternoon sun and hot northerly winds will help reduce fruit scorch.
Prefers fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost or well-rotted organic matter. In Melbourne's heavier clay soils, improve drainage by planting into a raised garden bed or mound. It also performs exceptionally well in large pots using a premium-quality potting mix.
Water deeply and regularly while establishing. During Melbourne's dry summers, maintain consistent moisture while fruit is developing, particularly during hot weather. Reduce watering during winter dormancy.
Feed in early spring and again in autumn with a quality fruit tree fertiliser high in nitrogen to encourage healthy growth and strong fruit production.
Prune lightly during winter dormancy to remove damaged or crossing branches and maintain the tree's naturally upright shape. Minimal pruning is generally required compared to traditional peach trees.
Apply a preventative Bordeaux spray at the beginning of winter and again just before bud swell to help control peach leaf curl and other fungal diseases. Protect developing fruit with bird netting as harvest approaches.
While the dwarfing rootstock provides good stability, staking during establishment is recommended, particularly in exposed or windy gardens.
