Protea ‘Australis® Ruby’ is a stunning evergreen shrub grown for its rich ruby-red flowers, highlighted by distinctive velvety black-tipped bracts. Flowering from late winter through spring, the large goblet-shaped blooms create a dramatic display against deep green foliage, bringing bold colour and texture to the garden when many other plants are just beginning to flower.

Renowned for its exceptional cut flower quality, ‘Australis® Ruby’ produces long-lasting blooms on strong upright stems that are equally beautiful fresh or dried. Its upright growth habit makes it an excellent choice for feature planting, screening and larger native garden borders.

Drought tolerant once established and well suited to Australian conditions, this striking Protea performs best in full sun with excellent drainage.

Care & Growing Tips
Plant in full sun with good air circulation in free-draining, slightly acidic soil.
Water regularly during establishment, allowing the soil to partially dry between waterings.
Once established, water only during extended dry periods.
Feed sparingly with a low-phosphorus fertiliser formulated for Australian native plants if required.
Lightly prune after flowering to maintain a compact shape and encourage future blooms, avoiding hard pruning into old bare wood.
