Description
Weeping Betula Youngii Short Graft.
Botanical Name: Pendula youngii.
This is a popular weeping form of silver birch. The small bright green leaves, and contrasting white bark on trunk, make a splendid display. The foliage which is small diamond-shaped, bright green leaves with serrated edges which turn golden in Autumn. A suitable tree for all gardens.
Care
- Plant in full sun in a well-drained and well-worked soil.
- Take care to plant the bud union above the soil level.
- Attention to pruning may be required depending on the ultimate shape desired.
- To obtain the “umbrella” look, any upright branching should be pruned. To avoid any sap loss pruning should be done in late Autumn or early Winter. Plant in a sunny position.
- Water in well and keep soil moist until tree is established.
- Fertilize when planting and again after new growth appears.
- It can grow to 3 x 3m.
