Wisteria Sinensis Chinese Wisteria - 33cm Pot

Wisteria sinensis, commonly known as Chinese Wisteria, is a spectacular deciduous climber renowned for its dramatic spring flower display and vigorous growth. Before the foliage fully emerges, this variety produces long, pendulous racemes of highly perfumed flowers in soft lilac to mauve tones, creating a striking cascade of colour that signals the start of spring.

Once in leaf, mid-green foliage quickly covers the vine from spring through to autumn, providing dense coverage and seasonal shade. Chinese Wisteria is ideal for training over large, sturdy structures such as pergolas, fences and arbours, where its flowing flowers and foliage can be fully appreciated. With patience and regular pruning, it can also be trained as a standard tree-like feature.

A tough and adaptable plant, Wisteria sinensis tolerates most soil types and becomes waterwise once established. Given strong support and space, it can grow up to 7 metres tall and spread as widely as allowed without pruning.

Care & Growing Tips
Plant in full sun for best flowering, in a position sheltered from strong winds. Provide very strong support from the outset, as mature plants become heavy. Regular summer pruning is essential to control growth and encourage the development of short flowering spurs for improved blooms the following spring. Water regularly while establishing, then reduce once the plant is settled.
