Ozbreed Zen Grass® is a low-growing Zoysia hybrid developed as a low-maintenance alternative to a traditional lawn. It forms a dense, spreading carpet with a distinctive rippled or gently undulating appearance and soft, non-prickly foliage.

Fast spreading compared with traditional Japanese-style Zoysia lawns, Zen Grass® can establish good coverage within a growing season when conditions are suitable. Its dense growth also helps reduce weed invasion, while its naturally low habit means it can be left largely unmown for a relaxed, flowing appearance.

It is best suited to lower-use areas rather than lawns regularly used for sport, picnics or heavy activity. It will tolerate walking and general garden use, but its characteristic undulating appearance is best maintained in more passive spaces. Alternatively, it can be mown more regularly if a conventional manicured lawn appearance is preferred.

Tough and adaptable, Zen Grass® has good tolerance to drought, heat, frost, shade and wear once established.

Mature size: approximately 10 to 20cm high, spreading to around 1 metre wide per plant over time.

Care & Growing Tips

Plant from spring through autumn and water regularly for the first 4 to 8 weeks while establishing. For faster coverage, plant several plants per square metre. Once established, Zen Grass® has low fertiliser requirements and can be maintained with very little mowing, typically around once a year when grown for its natural undulating appearance.

It can also be planted through mulch, where it will spread across the surface and root through it. If a flatter, more conventional lawn is preferred, mow monthly or as required.
