Weeping Betula Youngii Short.
Botanical Name: Pendula youngii.
This is a popular weeping form of silver birch. The small bright green leaves, and contrasting white bark on trunk, make a splendid display. The foliage which is small diamond-shaped, bright green leaves with serrated edges which turn golden in Autumn. A suitable tree for all gardens.
- Plant in full sun in a well-drained and well-worked soil.
- Take care to plant the bud union above the soil level.
- Attention to pruning may be required depending on the ultimate shape desired.
To obtain the “umbrella” look, any upright branching should be pruned. To avoid any sap loss pruning should be done in late Autumn or early Winter. Plant in a sunny position.
- Water in well and keep soil moist until tree is established.
- Fertilize when planting and again after new growth appears.
It can grow to 3 x 3m.
