Magnolia Black Tulip.
Magnificent, goblet-shaped blooms in a stunning, fragrant, black-purple coloured up to 15cm wide appear in late Winter on the bare branches. A superb, frost-hardy deciduous magnolia variety with attractive foliage and a compact growth habit. Bred in New Zealand, this variety is a hybrid of the 'Vulcan' and 'Lolanthe'. Black Tulip will flower at a young age, but the flowers may take a few seasons to develop to their true size and colour.When planting select a sunny position that is protected from strong winds.
In ideal conditions, it can grow to H5m x W3m.
Magnolias prefer moist, fertile and well-drained soil that is slightly acidic.
An annual application of good quality fertiliser in spring, and mulching and watering during the drier months especially when the plant is establishing itself
